Arts Council Artsmark Silver Award

Our school achieved the Artsmark Silver Award in 2003 and was invited to the Bridgewater Hall to receive our certificate. Mr.McDowell, Mrs.Hope and two children spent a very enjoyable morning there and very proudly, brought back the certificate to school.

To achieve this award, the school had to show evidence of a variety of the Arts - art, craft, poetry, drama, dance - put into practice in the past few years. Our school is very rich in beautiful art work and lovely displays. We have also used the services of an artist, Helen Parsley in school and had Frances Lennon teach the children her techniques, before she became so famous!

We have many dance troupes, including the Zulus, visiting our school, Andy Tooze stimulating the children’s poetic juices, Gervase Phinn reading extracts from his novels, as only he can and many other stimuli.

The Artsweeks held in the last three years have proved very successful, giving the children many opportunities to explore the Arts. We must thank the Friends of Davyhulme for their continued support in some of our ventures.

Hopefully, we will continue to embark on other projects in the future which will further enrich the children’s knowledge, skills and enjoyment of the Arts.
