Community Links

The school has a good reputation and is an important part of the local community. We have participated in many local initiatives and competitions led by Boots the Chemist, Trafford LEA, The Library, the Road Safety Unit and more. Each Christmas we have enjoyed singing at several homes for the elderly and we regularly welcome local ‘friends’ into school, for a variety of reasons.

We have had links with Christ Church for several years and the vicar has often taken assemblies or worked with groups of children.

Senior Citizens, grandparents and friends in the community are invited to our concerts and then have an opportunity to talk to the children over refreshments and a free raffle. A local shop and Trafford General Hospital have displayed some of our children’s excellent art work and the Trafford Bibliographer came in to school to read to the children and judge books made in Design and Technology. Local artists and poets have worked with our children and many parents and grandparents generously give of their time to help in school. Some of them even came to the school themselves! We are very grateful for this support.

Manchester United regularly take some of our Y5 children for extra ‘Support Work’ at their Old Trafford ground and we have science links with Urmston Grammar School, now a science college. Our sports links with Lostock High School have been very strong and together with other local primary schools, Y6 children are invited each year to visit Wellacre Secondary School and participate in sample lessons.

Many parents and grandparents have taken advantage of our ‘On-Line’ ICT weeks and worked with the children in the computer suite. They were most enjoyable sessions!

We have close links with our feeder school, Davyhulme Infants School, and share the same grounds and site manager.

The school also hosts –

• ‘Let’s Play’ - a breakfast, after school and holiday club
Birds, trees and a tractor
